Arms Warrior

TBC Classic PVP Guide

Overview

Arms Warrior is the most important melee DPS in TBC PVP. Mortal Strike's 50% healing reduction is irreplaceable — no arena comp functions at the highest level without it. Warriors bring constant pressure through MS, Hamstring, and Intercept, with burst windows via Recklessness and Death Wish. The class requires excellent target calling, stance dancing, and cooldown management. You are the engine that drives kills in every comp you play.

Faction Racials

horde

Orc — Hardiness + Blood Fury

Hardiness gives 15% stun resistance — huge for a class that lives in melee and gets stunned constantly. Blood Fury adds attack power for burst windows. Orc is the best Horde Warrior race for PVP by a large margin.

horde

Undead — Will of the Forsaken

WotF breaks Fear, Charm, and Sleep. Useful against Warlock Fear and Priest Psychic Scream. Makes you much harder to CC. Second best Horde race for Warrior PVP.

alliance

Human — Perception + Sword/Mace Expertise

Perception detects stealthed Rogues and Druids — invaluable in arena. Sword and Mace expertise is minor but adds consistent damage. Strong Alliance choice.

alliance

Gnome — Escape Artist

Escape Artist breaks any root or snare on a 1 minute cooldown. Free root break is incredibly strong for a melee class that needs to stay on target. Arguably better than Human for Warrior PVP.

Arena Strategy

Warrior Fundamentals

Your job is simple: stick to a target and keep MS debuff active. Everything else is secondary. MS uptime is the single most important thing you contribute to your team. If MS falls off the kill target, your team's kill pressure drops by half.

Stance Dancing

Mastering stance dancing separates good Warriors from great ones. Battle Stance for Overpower procs and Charge. Berserker Stance for Intercept, Pummel, and Berserker Rage. Defensive Stance for Spell Reflect, Disarm, and Shield Block. You need macros that swap stance + ability in one button.

Spell Reflect is your most skill-expressive ability. Reflecting a Polymorph, Fear, or Cyclone swings the entire game. Practice the timing — swap to Defensive Stance, equip shield, Spell Reflect, swap back. This needs to be muscle memory.

Intercept and Mobility

Intercept is your gap closer and your most important ability after MS. It stuns for 3 seconds and closes distance. Save it for when targets try to create space — do not waste it when you are already in melee range. Track the cooldown religiously.

Hamstring everything. If a target is in melee range without Hamstring, you are playing wrong. Hamstring tax is real — every GCD you spend on Hamstring is a GCD not spent on damage, but it prevents kiting which is worth more.

Cooldown Usage

Recklessness: use during CC on enemy healer. It guarantees crits for 15 seconds. Combined with MS and a healer in CC, this is your kill window. Do not pop Recklessness while the enemy healer is free — the crits are wasted if everything is healed.

Death Wish: less common but provides 20% damage for 30 seconds. Use in sustained pressure situations where Recklessness crit RNG is less reliable. Stacks well with Bloodlust in 5v5.

Matchups

vs Restoration Druid

Medium (4/10)

Druids kite you. Hamstring and Intercept are essential. They will try to pillar — follow them. MS debuff must stay up through HoTs. Bash into Cyclone is their CC on you — Berserker Rage the follow-up Fear if a Warlock is involved.

  • Hamstring + Intercept to prevent kiting
  • MS debuff through HoTs
  • Berserker Rage after Bash
  • Don't chase around pillars — cut them off
  • Intercept when they shift Travel Form

vs Subtlety Rogue

Medium (5/10)

Rogues stun you. Berserker Rage breaks Gouge. Overpower after they Evasion. Disarm during their burst. Hamstring to prevent re-stealth. If they Vanish, use AoE (Thunderclap, Demo Shout) to break stealth.

  • Berserker Rage breaks Gouge
  • Overpower beats Evasion
  • Disarm during burst
  • Hamstring prevents re-stealth
  • AoE breaks Vanish stealth

vs SL/SL Warlock

Medium (6/10)

Soul Link makes them tanky. Spell Reflect Fear. Stay on the Warlock through DoTs — your healer handles the damage. MS debuff reduces Drain Life healing. Intercept after they Death Coil for distance.

  • Spell Reflect Fear
  • MS reduces Drain Life
  • Stay on Warlock through DoTs
  • Intercept after Death Coil
  • Let healer handle DoT damage

vs Frost Mage

Hard (7/10)

Mages kite you hard. Intercept is critical — save it for Blink. Spell Reflect Polymorph and Frostbolt. Berserker Rage does NOT break Frost Nova — you need your partner to dispel or you are stuck. Hamstring before they Nova.

  • Intercept after Blink
  • Spell Reflect Poly and Frostbolt
  • Berserker Rage doesn't break Nova
  • Need partner dispel for roots
  • Hamstring before Nova

vs Discipline Priest

Medium (4/10)

Squishy. MS pressure destroys Priests. Pummel Mana Burn and heals. Spell Reflect Psychic Scream. Don't overextend chasing — Priests kite with SW:Pain and shields.

  • MS destroys Priests
  • Pummel Mana Burn
  • Spell Reflect Scream
  • Don't overextend
  • Priests are squishy under pressure

vs Beast Mastery Hunter

Easy (3/10)

Easy in melee range. Intercept to close gap. Hamstring to prevent kiting. Disarm during Bestial Wrath. The pet does most damage — ignore it, stay on Hunter.

  • Intercept to close gap
  • Hamstring prevents kiting
  • Disarm during Bestial Wrath
  • Ignore the pet
  • Easy in melee range

vs Holy Paladin

Medium (4/10)

Tanky but no escape. MS through their heals. They will Bubble — wait it out or have your team Mass Dispel. Hamstring to keep them in range. Freedom makes them harder to control.

  • MS through heals
  • Wait out Bubble
  • Hamstring to keep in range
  • Freedom is annoying
  • Tanky but killable with MS

Battleground Strategy

Battleground Role

You are the team fight king. MS in AoE brawls reduces healing on multiple targets with Sweeping Strikes. Intercept flag carriers. Hamstring everything. In WSG, you are the primary flag carrier killer — MS + Execute on a flag carrier is devastating.

In AB, defend or attack nodes with a healer. Your sustained damage with healer support holds nodes against 2-3 attackers. In AV, push with the zerg and MS priority targets (healers, flag carriers).

Carry Free Action Potions for root-heavy BGs. Berserker Rage for Fear. Intimidating Shout to AoE fear groups off flags.
